KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA, KATHMANDU started functioning in 1973 under Indian Co-operation Mission (ICM). The land was provided by the Embassy of India and the building was constructed by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. The ICM was closed in 1980 and the management of the Vidyalaya was taken over by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu. His Excellency, Ambassador of India to Nepal is the patron and the Deputy Chief of Mission is the Chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee.

2011: RESOURCE ROOM
To keep pace with the rapidly changing scenario of classrooms and learning with the integration of technology, our Vidyalaya RESOURCE room for students equipped with LCD projector and screen, TV, educational CDs, Xerox machine, and computers was inaugurated by Sri Jaideep Mazumdar, DCM and Chairman, VMC, KV, Kathmandu, on 26th July, 2011.
2011: FACELIFT FOR THE VIDYALAYA
Under renovation, the Vidyalaya building received a fresh look with a color wash. Wastewater lines were repaired. A water treatment plant was erected and an RO system installed for drinking water. Staircases were roofed with colored sheets. Washroom renovation was sponsored by Pepsi Nepal. A basketball court was developed. Dabur Nepal donated a Table Tennis Table and constructed a TT Shed.
2011-12: NEW COMMERCE STREAM OPENED
2011-12: KV KATHMANDU AT KVS REGIONAL SPORTS MEET
For the first time in KV Kathmandu’s history, 33 students participated in the KVS Regional Sports Meet. 8 students participated in the 42nd KVS National Sports Meet. Two students were selected for SGFI in swimming.
2011: GANDHI MEMORIAL INTERSCHOOL COMPETITIONS
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, in association with the Embassy of India, hosted the Gandhi Memorial Inter School competitions.
Facilities
Physics Lab
The Physics department is well-equipped with scientific instruments. It offers all necessary facilities for performing scientific experiments, projects, and innovative work. A small reference library of science and physics books is also available.
Chemistry Lab
The chemistry lab is equipped with all necessary laboratory apparatus and chemicals. It helps students develop problem-solving skills and understand industrial and technological processes through practical learning.
Biology Lab
The Biology lab is well-equipped with instruments, chemicals, a human skeleton, and various specimens. It includes a computer with internet access and supports experiments for secondary and senior secondary students.
Library
The school library has over 15,000 books including textbooks, reference books, dictionaries, fiction, and non-fiction. All students are library members and can borrow two books at a time. A computer is also available.
Resource Room
The Resource Room is equipped with an LCD projector, screen, TV, educational CDs, Xerox machine, and computers to integrate technology into the classroom experience.
Computer Lab
The Vidyalaya has two computer labs – Junior and Senior – with a total of 62 computers, LCD projectors, scanners, UPS units, and other peripherals.
e-Classrooms
Seven classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors, desktop computers, and display screens to support digital teaching and learning.
